Colombia Implements Natural Gas Rationing Due to Regasification Facility Failure
Colombia has implemented scheduled natural gas rationing due to a technical failure at the regasification facility of Sociedad Portuaria El Cayao (SPEC LNG). The Ministry of Mines and Energy declared the measure on September 25, in response to the temporary reduction in delivery capacity caused by the infrastructure's operational condition.
The regasification terminal is the only import, storage, and regasification facility for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Colombia. SPEC LNG reported that one of its four trains was undergoing corrective work due to an unforeseen operational condition.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy prioritized essential demand during the rationing period, which will include households, hospitals, schools, mass transportation, and other critical users. The measure aims to guarantee continuity of supply for priority users while the inspection and correction activities are carried out.
