Colorado Ballot Measure Tied to Fossil Fuel Industry Interests
The Colorado state ballot in November will feature Amendment 82, a measure that appears to grant citizens a 'Right to Natural Gas' but is actually a ploy by the fossil fuel industry to limit the transition to renewable energy.
A recent example of this is a development in Aurora where Xcel Energy requested a $23 million natural gas supply line five miles long, which would have raised bills for all customers while allowing 25,000 additional homes to emit more carbon with outdated equipment.
The author warns that Amendment 82 is not just about the transition to renewable energy but also about whether monopoly utilities and corporate polluters should be allowed to write themselves into the state constitution permanently.
