Commodities Markets Mixed as Base Metals Outshine Precious Metals
Global commodities experienced mixed performance last week, with base metals outperforming precious metals. Gold prices fell by 0.54%, while silver declined by 1.90%. On the other hand, copper gained 1.21%, lead slipped 1.08%, and zinc advanced 1.57%.
The decline in gold and silver was attributed to a cautious market sentiment after the United States and Iran resumed diplomatic negotiations, reducing safe-haven demand for these metals. Investors also evaluated the Federal Reserve's policy outlook after interest rates were left unchanged.
Natural gas prices fell by 4.88% due to expectations of comfortable U.S. inventories and moderate weather forecasts that limited near-term demand. Crude oil declined by 5.20% following announcements from President Donald Trump about resumed negotiations with Iran, easing concerns over potential supply disruptions in the Middle East.
