Connecticut Gas Prices Skyrocket Amid Middle Eastern Tensions
Gas prices in Orange and across Connecticut are rising again due to renewed conflict in the Middle East, which has rattled global oil markets. According to the latest data from AAA and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), Connecticut's statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded reached $4.215 as of July 28.
This represents an increase from approximately $4.10 one week ago, roughly 23 cents above the month-ago average of about $3.98, and more than $1.09 per gallon compared to a year ago when the state average was $3.12.
The surge follows the July 8 breakdown of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, which sent crude oil prices climbing sharply and has continued to exert upward pressure on pump prices throughout the region.
