ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP) reported strong financial results for the third quarter of 2026, exceeding Wall Street’s expectations on both revenue and earnings. The oil and gas producer posted revenue of $20.06 billion, a 29.2% year-on-year increase and a 10.7% beat over analysts’ consensus estimates of $18.11 billion. Its GAAP profit of $3.34 per share was 11% above the expected $3.01 per share.

The company’s free cash flow margin stood at 20.3%, consistent with the same quarter last year. However, oil production declined by 3.2% year on year, raising questions about underlying asset growth. Despite this, ConocoPhillips has demonstrated resilience with a 12.7% compounded annual revenue growth over the last five years and an 11.3% growth over the last decade.

ConocoPhillips’s adjusted EBITDA margin averaged 42.8% over the last five years, but it decreased by 2.8 percentage points over the last year. This decline suggests potential challenges in managing expenses, even as revenue growth should have provided cost leverage. The company’s free cash flow margin of 20.3% in Q3 was above its five-year average, highlighting strong cash profitability.

Following the earnings release, ConocoPhillips’s shares rose 1.6% to $139.12. While the quarterly results were impressive, long-term business quality and valuation remain critical factors for investors considering the stock.
