ConocoPhillips Inks 20-Year LNG Deal with Venture Global
ConocoPhillips has signed a 20-year deal with Venture Global to purchase 1 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) starting in 2030. The agreement comes as part of a broader trend in the energy sector to increase exposure to LNG after QatarEnergy's force majeure declaration. This move is expected to boost demand for LNG despite geopolitical tensions and their impact on prices.
Venture Global has faced challenges from international oil majors, including Shell, BP, Repsol, and others who accused the company of profiteering by selling LNG cargoes on the spot market instead of honoring long-term contracts. However, a tribunal recently ruled in favor of Venture Global, stating that the company had not violated its contractual obligations with its clients.
Venture Global currently has 100 million tons of annual LNG capacity, including operating and under-construction facilities. The company's CEO, Mike Sabel, expressed pride in welcoming ConocoPhillips as a long-term partner, highlighting Venture Global's proven ability to deliver reliable, low-cost U.S. LNG quickly and at scale.
