Copper Explorers Strike Gold as Red Metal Price Soars
Copper explorers are gaining attention as the price of copper nears historic highs above US$14,000/t. The sector is seeing a resurgence in interest, with several juniors experiencing significant share price increases. Kaoko Metals (ASX:KAO) saw its shares nearly triple after announcing visible copper mineralisation at its Chalkos project in Namibia, while Solstice Minerals (ASX:SLS) has seen its share price more than double to $2.24 following drilling success at its Nanadie Well project in Western Australia.
The value of these discoveries will only be truly recognised when assays come back, showing exactly how much copper is present. If the grades and widths are attractive, the response could be significant. Nick Castleden, managing director of Solstice Minerals, said that interest in a new copper story or someone bringing new copper projects to the page in WA has been 'stunned'.
Other juniors, such as Cannindah Resources (ASX:CAE), are also showing promise with their exploration efforts. The company is preparing to update its resource at its Mt Cannindah project near Bundaberg and has seen significant drilling results, including 94m at 1.11% copper equivalent from 178m in expansion drilling.
Cameron Switzer, managing director of Cannindah Resources, said that the issue with copper isn't that there aren't enough resources, but that an inability to develop resources has led to chronic under-supply. This has crashed into a rising tide for demand from electrification through to AI.
