Copper-Fueled Growth: Wire and Cable Makers Deliver Strong Q1 Earnings

Wire and cable manufacturers have reported strong Q1 earnings, driven by elevated copper prices and demand momentum from various sectors. Companies like Polycab India, KEI Industries, Sterlite Technologies, and RR Kabel recorded significant revenue and profit growth in the period under review.

The industry experts note that the majority of gains were due to higher copper prices, which inflated revenues. However, they caution that if copper prices stabilize at a higher level, companies may continue to gain but margins could normalize due to inventory-gain effects washing out.

According to Saikat Kumar, Partner & Board Member, Red Lions Capital DIPMarket, the industry volumes are expected to hold through Q2 as margins normalize. He also predicts that companies which never relied on copper price gains will emerge as winners during the commodity price correction phase.
