Copper Price Surge Sparks Electronics Price Hikes Ahead of Dussehra
As of October 1, several electronic appliances have seen price hikes due to increasing raw material costs and freight expenses. According to reports, air conditioners have become costlier by around 5-8% while LED TVs and washing machines have increased in price by 3-4%. The rise in copper prices has been cited as a major factor behind these increases. Daikin, a leading AC manufacturer, has raised its prices by 8-10% since September 16 due to the surge in copper costs.
The cost of raw materials such as copper, steel, and aluminium has increased significantly over the past year. Copper prices have risen from around $8,000-$9,000 per metric tonne last year to approximately $14,500. This price hike is expected to impact consumers who plan to purchase new electronic appliances during Dussehra and Diwali.
Companies like Godrej have reported a rise in commodity costs of around 8-10% since the last price review. Super Plastronics, which manufactures TV brands like Thomson and Kodak, plans to increase its prices by about 7% after October. The company has already seen a 4-5% rise in appliance prices.
