Copper Prices Plummet Amid Weakened China Data and Tariff Uncertainty
Copper prices have taken a hit after reaching record highs last week due to supply disruptions and tariff concerns.
The metal fell to around $6.6 per pound on Monday, extending its retreat from recent peaks as softening economic data from top consumer China weighed on the demand outlook.
China's industrial profits increased 15.7% in the first eight months of this year compared to a 17.6% rise during January-July, with subdued domestic demand offsetting strength in high-tech and AI-related manufacturing sectors.
The slowdown was more pronounced on a monthly basis, with industrial profits rising just 4.2% in August year-on-year, marking the slowest growth since November 2025.
