Copper Prices Soar to Record Highs Amid AI Boom and Tariff Uncertainty

Copper prices have reached record highs due to a combination of factors. The AI boom and robust demand for the metal are driving up prices, while uncertainty over tariffs is contributing to the frenzy.

According to data from the International Copper Study Group, global copper mine output declined by 1.1% in the first half of this year. This decline is attributed to poor weather and deteriorating mine quality. Chile, the world's largest copper producer, saw a 6.6% decline in output during the same period.

Analysts say that while there is a global surplus of refined copper, declines in mine production are raising concerns about tightening supply at a time when demand remains solid. The tariff uncertainty is creating distortions in the global market and contributing to higher prices.
