Copper Soars Near Record Highs Amid AI Infrastructure Boom
Copper prices have reached near-record highs due to strong demand from artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure investments and renewable energy efforts. The metal has gained more than 18% compared to the end of 2025, with its price hovering around $6.65 a pound.
Zafer Ergezen, a futures and commodity markets expert, attributes copper's resilience to AI technologies and investments in data centers, energy infrastructure, and power transmission systems. These factors have driven demand, despite concerns over global economic growth slowdowns and high interest rates.
Ergazen also notes that renewable energy efforts support copper demand as countries seek alternative energy sources. China's rapidly growing electric vehicle sector has further boosted copper demand, particularly with the increasing market share of Chinese manufacturers.
While recession fears persist, Ergezen believes that AI infrastructure will continue to drive global growth and keep copper prices strong.
