Corn and Soybean Crops Fall Short of Expectations Due to Challenging Growing Season
The Pro Farmer Crop Tour has concluded for this year's estimates on corn and soybean crops. Despite initial potential, a rocky growing season limited the yield of both crops.
Corn yields were particularly affected, with scouts reporting subpar ear counts, grain length, and maturity concerns due to wet weather and replants in parts of the eastern Corn Belt. The U.S. corn crop is estimated at 15.344 billion bushels based on an average yield of 173.2 bu. per acre.
The soybean crop also showed variability, with pockets of strong potential but remaining dependent on late-season weather and plant health. The U.S. soybean crop is estimated at 4.572 billion bushels, based on an average yield of 53.3 bushels per acre.
