Corn Belt Corn Development Rapidly Accelerated by Extreme July Weather

The Corn Belt region experienced extreme weather variability in July, affecting corn development and growth. Agronomists reported rapid growth but also significant stress from heat and moisture availability.

In western Iowa, above-average temperatures accelerated corn development, but dry pockets suffered from drought stress and pollination issues. Independent agronomist Katie Jorgensen noted that her territory faced triple-digit heat for nearly two weeks alongside increasing pressure from insects and gray leaf spot.

In northwestern Illinois, agronomists saw rapid corn progress as crops moved quickly through their developmental stages during the month. Drew Beckman of Beck's Hybrids noted that while heat drove development, scouts remained focused on monitoring for disease progression.
