Corn Futures Hit By US Drought, Geopolitics, Volatility
The US Corn Belt drought is putting upward pressure on corn futures as supply concerns intensify. The FAO Food Price Index rose by 0.6% in July, driven by hot and dry conditions in parts of the US Corn Belt that have tightened maize (corn) prices.
Alongside weather-driven supply squeeze, energy market volatility and ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting grain exports are introducing additional uncertainty for global corn flows. The ZC price remains below its key short- and medium-term moving averages but above its longer-term daily average, suggesting mixed signals across timeframes.
Corn futures face short- and medium-term selling pressure with technical signals broadly bearish; trading is expected between $453.82 to $469.92, and further declines are highly probable. A period of consolidation between these bounds could develop if the contract does not break support or resistance.
