U.S. corn futures climbed higher on Monday, partially recovering from a steep drop the previous session. The sharp decline came in response to an unexpected report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which forecasted a larger corn crop than analysts had anticipated.
The USDA's October World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) report surprised the market by predicting higher corn production and yields. This contradicted expectations for a reduction, leading to a significant sell-off on Friday.
The Teucrium Corn Fund ETF (CORN) and other related agricultural commodities, such as wheat (WEAT), soybeans (SOYB), and livestock funds (DBA, MOO), were also impacted by the report. Traders adjusted their positions in light of the revised outlook for corn supplies.
