Corn Prices Surge on Lower-Than-Expected Yield Results
Corn prices are up today due to lower-than-expected yield results from the USDA's Crop Production and WASDE reports. The reports showed a national average cash corn price of $4.20 3/4, which is 13 cents higher than yesterday.
The NASS report revealed that yield came in at 180.7 bushels per acre (bpa), with planted acreage raised by 1.4 million acres from the June report to 96.7 million acres, and harvested up 1.2 to 88.6 million acres. This led to a production total of 16.013 billion bushels (bbu), which is 13 mbu above the July WASDE number and nearly 80 mbu above estimates.
The WASDE data also showed that ending stocks for 2025/26 were down 75 million bushels from last month on an increase to exports at 1.945 bbu, with new crop stocks pegged at 1.653 bbu due to the lower carryover and increased new crop export potential.
