COSCO Ships $253m into LNG Investment Vehicle
COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation has injected an additional $253 million into its liquefied natural gas (LNG) investment vehicle, Shanghai COSCO Shipping LNG Investment. The funds, equivalent to RMB1.7 billion, were drawn from the company's own resources and aim to reinforce the subsidiary's capital structure and support its shipping operations.
Shanghai LNG had a registered capital of RMB7.13 billion as of June 2026, with assets worth RMB30.42 billion. This injection marks the second significant capital action involving the subsidiary this year, following a $340.3 million investment in January to finance two 175,000 cubic meter LNG carrier newbuildings.
The company's gas exposure has grown rapidly alongside its tanker operation, with interests in 97 LNG carriers and 66 vessels totaling 11.18 million cubic meters already operating.
