Costco Boosts Motor Oil Price Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Costco has raised the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil to $58 for a 5-quart two-pack, up from around $30 just last year. The wholesale club operator is also limiting purchases of the oil to two boxes per week.
The move comes as oil prices continue to climb due to ongoing tension in the Middle East. Brent crude prices have surpassed $109 per barrel, and the average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline has risen to nearly $4.32 from $3.18 just a year ago.
Costco is also limiting purchases of Mobil 1's full-synthetic motor oil 1-quart six pack to five units per membership at around $44 per unit. The wholesale club did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the price increase and purchase limits.
