Costco Raises Kirkland Motor Oil Price Amid Ongoing Middle East Tensions
Costco has raised the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil from around $30 to approximately $58 per two-pack, a nearly 93% increase. The wholesale club operator is also limiting customers to purchasing only two boxes of this oil per week.
This move comes as oil prices continue to rise due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, with Brent crude reaching over $109 per barrel on Monday morning. The average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline has increased to nearly $4.32 from $3.18 a year ago, according to AAA.
The price hike and purchase limit for Costco's motor oil may be another blow to consumers already struggling with high grocery prices and inflation worries.
Oil companies are likely to prioritize producing diesel and gasoline over motor oil due to higher demand and daily volume, further limiting the availability of affordable motor oil options.
