Costco Slams Brakes on Motor Oil Prices Amid Global Oil Turmoil
Costco has raised the price of its Kirkland Signature full-synthetic motor oil from around $30 to approximately $58 per two-pack. This significant price hike comes with a limit on purchases, restricting customers to buying only two boxes per week.
The company has also limited the sale of Mobil 1's full-synthetic motor oil 1-quart six pack, which now costs about $44, to five units per membership. The move is seen as indicative of high oil prices, with analysts pointing to ongoing tension in the Middle East and attacks on oil infrastructure.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, notes that normal cars require only four to five quarts of motor oil every 5,000 miles. He describes Costco's limit as 'extremely reasonable,' suggesting that most drivers will not be impacted by the changes.
