Iran-Backed Groups Linked to Saudi Oil Pipeline Attack

Iran-backed groups broke away from established Iraqi factions have been linked to an attack on Saudi oil pipeline, according to Iraqi sources. The attack was carried out by small armed groups consisting of five to 10 members who operate independently and are linked to the hardline wing of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The groups, which travel in civilian vehicles and wear no military uniforms, have been identified as carrying out drone attacks. Saudi Arabia said it suspended operations on its East-West pipeline after a drone attack on Thursday, with Riyadh attributing the attack to Iraq where Iran-backed factions are active.

The Iraqi government confirmed that the attacks were launched from inside Iraq, prompting Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to order an investigation and legal action against those involved. The prime minister also dismissed the commander of operations and police chief in Maysan province after it was established that the attacks had originated there.
