CPC Terminal Attack Sparks Production Losses in Kazakhstan
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal in Kazakhstan has been attacked, prompting the country's Energy Ministry to adjust its oil production plans. According to the ministry, this will result in a production loss of 3.5 million tonnes.
This disruption follows a familiar wartime pattern, where strikes on Russian Black Sea energy infrastructure have intermittently threatened the main export route for Kazakh crude. The bulk of Kazakhstan's production ships through CPC rather than alternative corridors.
Historically, past episodes of CPC disruption have seen flows restored within weeks, with Kazakh output deferred rather than permanently lost. However, if fields are forced to curtail due to storage and pipeline capacity back-ups, restart lag becomes a significant variable.
