CPOPC Strengthens India Ties to Boost Edible Oil Security
The Council of Palm Oil Producing Countries (CPOPC) has strengthened its commitment to collaborate with India on edible oil security, sustainable production, and resilient supply chains. This was emphasized during the GLOBOIL India 2026 event in Mumbai, where CPOPC leaders highlighted India's growing significance for palm oil-producing nations.
CPOPC Secretary-General Izzana Salleh stated that India should be seen as more than just an export market, but as a key partner in achieving food security and sustainable growth. The Council also praised India's efforts to boost domestic edible oil production, suggesting that both local capacity and reliable imports are essential to meet the country's rising demand.
CPOPC Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Musdhalifah Machmud noted that global edible oil dynamics, particularly the increasing demand for biofuels, could impact international trade. She emphasized the need for transparency and dialogue to help Indian buyers and producing countries adapt to changing biofuel policies. The Council reported that palm oil production among its member countries grew from 66 million tonnes in 2021 to 73 million tonnes in 2025.
During the event, CPOPC engaged with Indian consumers and industry stakeholders, co-hosting a roundtable on palm oil perceptions and consumer narratives. The discussions covered nutrition, sustainability, responsible sourcing, and food marketing, aiming to improve consumer awareness through transparent and evidence-based information. CPOPC stressed the importance of ongoing cooperation with Indian organizations and policymakers to ensure predictable trade and resilient supply chains.
