CPPA Seeks Electricity Price Hike by Rs1.73 per Unit Amid Fuel Costs
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed an application to increase electricity prices by Rs1.73 per unit for August's fuel adjustment, according to ARY News.
If approved, this proposed increase will put an additional burden of Rs29.5 billion on consumers and also apply to K-Electric customers.
The CPPA based its request on the electricity generation and fuel costs recorded in August, with 14.464 billion units supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) at a cost of Rs8.82 per unit during the month.
The agency reported that 37.84% of electricity generated came from hydropower, while local coal accounted for 10.88%, imported coal for 15.59%, furnace oil for 2.15%, local gas for 7.04%, and imported LNG for 8.48% of power generation.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the CPPA's request on September 29.
