Croatia Aims to Supply Gas to Germany via Southern Energy Corridor

Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announced plans to supply gas to Germany from its LNG terminal on the island of Krk within two years. The proposal would strengthen Croatia's role in supplying Central Europe and require further development of the pipeline network through neighboring countries.

The Omišalj LNG terminal currently has an annual capacity of 6.1 billion cubic meters, with most of that capacity available for exports due to Croatia's own low gas requirements. The proposed southern energy corridor would connect Croatia through Slovenia and Austria with Germany, including Bavaria.

Plenković stated that Croatia had completed technically and financially demanding projects to increase the capacity of its LNG infrastructure and expand its pipeline network. However, establishing necessary connections and transport arrangements through Slovenia and Austria remains a challenge.
