Crude Oil Price Drop Raises Questions About Technical vs. Fundamental Factors
The price of Brent crude oil fell recently due to good news about the Saudi pipeline, but aggression in the region persists. The current technical drop is uncertain, with the price in a downward channel and the stochastic oscillator overbought and crossing down.
However, fundamental factors may be more influential than technical analysis. After aggressive speeches by both the US and Iran at the UN General Assembly, both sides expressed willingness to return to peace talks, which could lead to relief in the Strait of Hormuz and lower oil prices.
This is significant for the US administration, as low crude prices tend to positively impact the Dow Jones Industrial Average. With midterm elections just five weeks away, a drop in oil prices may help boost the US economy.
But other factors are also at play. Inflation will likely lead to higher interest rates from the US Federal Reserve, making equity investments less attractive and contributing to falling indices like the S&P 500.
