Crude Oil Prices Drop on Dollar Strength and Saudi Price Cuts
Crude oil prices experienced a downturn on Monday, with November WTI crude oil (CLX26) closing down -1.68 (-1.84%) and November RBOB gasoline (RBX26) falling -0.0662 (-2.00%). The decline was driven by a rally in the dollar index ($DXY), which reached a 1.5-year high, making oil more expensive for holders of other currencies.
The price drop was further exacerbated by Saudi Arabia's decision to cut the price of its Arab light crude to Asian customers for November delivery by more than anticipated. This unexpected move added downward pressure on global oil prices.
However, losses were somewhat contained by geopolitical developments in Yemen. Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces launched a full-scale military attack to recapture Houthi-held territory, which provided some support to oil prices amid concerns over potential supply disruptions.
