Crude Prices Soar on Dollar Weakness and Escalating Middle East Tensions
Crude oil prices have seen significant gains in recent days, reaching a three-week high. This uptrend is largely attributed to the weakening dollar and ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil supplies, remains closed due to heightened military activity between the US and Iran. In response to Iran's alleged ballistic missile attacks on UAE territory, the UAE severed all economic ties with Tehran. President Trump's statement that he is not interested in extending the expiring agreement with Iran has further dimmed prospects for a swift reopening of the Strait.
The recent attacks by Israel on Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon and Gaza have also contributed to the escalating tensions. Despite some Gulf countries successfully transiting crude shipments through the Strait, the overall situation remains precarious.
