Cyber Attack Suspected on LNG Tanker Sailing from US to Europe

A liquefied natural gas tanker, Vivit Africa LNG, has reportedly suffered a systems failure while sailing from the US to Europe. The crew suspects a cyber attack as the cause of the malfunction.

The incident occurred in early September when the tanker was near Italy and was supposed to discharge its cargo. However, after idling off the coast without discharging its cargo, the vessel began sailing away from its intended destination and is currently heading back towards the Spanish port of Algeciras.

The crew reported the incident to Korean Register, which acts as the technical and safety adviser to the South Korean-owned vessel. Investigations are ongoing, but there are no indications of who the perpetrator of the suspected attack may be.
