Dangote-Lamu Refinery LNG Power Plant Capacity Doubled to 1,000MW
Kenya is in talks with Dangote Industries to double the planned capacity of an LNG power plant at its proposed Lamu refinery, potentially increasing it to 1,000 megawatts (MW) and tapping Tanzanian gas.
The deal aims to bridge domestic electricity shortfalls and increase energy security for Kenya. The planned capacity is currently set at 500 MW, but the negotiations could see this increased by 100%.
Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has been involved in the project, with President William Ruto speaking alongside him at a summit in Nairobi on April 23, 2026.
