Dayton Gas Prices Hit Record Highs Amid Global Oil Price Surge

Gas prices in Dayton have surged to $4.34 per gallon, just two cents below the national average. This marks an increase of 30 cents from last week and nearly two dollars from a year ago. Chelsea Sick, Public and Government Affairs Manager with AAA Club Alliance, attributes this rise to the global crude oil price, which has exceeded $100 a barrel.

Sick explains that '50% of what we pay at the pump is the crude oil price' and that worldwide events impact this price. Diesel prices have reached a record high of $6.36 in Dayton, mirroring the national average.

AAA attributes part of the overnight jump to an Illinois refinery shutdown due to a power outage. This unexpected event has contributed to the sharp increase in gas prices. University of Dayton student Sandra Davila expressed concern about the rising costs: 'You know, college students don't have a lot of money and these gas prices are just really getting you.'

Dayton local Joshua Scharnick also shared his frustration with the current administration's handling of gas prices: 'The current administration in office promised to lower gas prices, but it seems like all they want is war, and it just drove gas prices back up after promises were made. It's disgusting.'
