DDG Prices Rise Amid Strong Ethanol Production
The DTN weekly spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) rose to $159 per short ton on average, up $4 from one week ago. This is based on data collected from 33 locations reporting for the week ended August 13.
Compared to other feedstocks, DDG remains a better value than soybean meal and higher cash corn. The DTN National Average Corn Index was up 10 cents per bushel (basis SEP) versus one week ago, while soybean meal prices were down $2.60 per short ton (basis DEC).
The U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council reported that DDGS export market prices increased for the week ended August 13. CIF NOLA barge price rose to $230 metric ton (mt), FOB vessel Gulf price remained steady at $243 mt, rail delivered PNW was up to $279, and rail delivered to California was up to $268 mt.
According to the Energy Information Administration, overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.117 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ending August 7, up 10,000 bpd from one week ago and 24,000 bpd higher than the same week last year.
