Delhi CNG Prices Soar as IGL Raises Rates Amid Global LNG Price Surge

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has raised CNG prices across Delhi-NCR by Rs 3.89 per kg, effective from Saturday. The hike is attributed to higher costs of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), which have surged due to global market fluctuations.

The Asia-JKM LNG benchmark has risen sharply since February, increasing from around $11 per MMBTU to $23.4 in August. This rise in international prices has put pressure on IGL's costs, leading to the price increase.

CNG prices vary across different cities in Delhi-NCR: Rs 86.98 per kg in Delhi, Rs 95.59 per kg in Noida and Ghaziabad, Rs 95.47 per kg in Meerut, and Rs 92.01 per kg in Gurugram.

The price hike is likely to impact commuters, particularly auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers who rely heavily on CNG. The increased fuel costs may also lead to higher passenger fares and freight rates if gas prices persist at elevated levels.
