Delhi Transport Unions Threaten Strike over CNG Price Hike

Delhi's CNG price hike has sparked protests from transport unions, who are demanding an immediate fare revision. The Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union and Auto Rickshaw Association have threatened to go on strike on September 9 if their demands are not met.

The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Delhi increased by INR 3.89 per kg, pushing the retail fuel price to INR 86.98 per kg. Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) attributed the hike to a significant portion of input gas being met through imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), whose spot rates have surged due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Rajendra Soni, general secretary of the Delhi Pradesh Taxi Union and Auto Rickshaw Association, urged the Delhi government to increase autorickshaw and taxi fares within a week. He warned that if their demands are not met, they will hold a strike on September 9.
