DERS Announces Default Natural Gas Rates for October 2026

Direct Energy Regulated Services (DERS) has announced default natural gas rates for October 2026. The regulated rate will apply to customers who have not chosen a competitive supplier within the ATCO Gas North and South service territories. According to DERS, the method used to calculate these rates has been verified by the Alberta Utilities Commission.

The regulated natural gas rate for October is $1.458 per GJ, which represents an increase from the September rate of $1.124 per GJ. This rate reflects a market price for October supplies of approximately $1.419 per GJ as reported by the NGX and incorporates an adjustment of $0.039 per GJ for September and prior months.

For residential customers in the North territory, which includes areas living in and north of the City of Red Deer, the typical gas bill for October would be approximately $101 based on an average 9 GJ of consumption. In contrast, the typical residential gas bill for South territory customers, who live south of the City of Red Deer, would be around $88.
