Gold and silver purchases surged during Dhanteras on November 6, 2026, as jewellers reported higher footfalls and advance bookings. The recent correction in precious metal prices encouraged consumers to make festive purchases, though buyers largely opted for lightweight jewellery, smaller coins, and lower-carat designs to manage elevated gold prices.

Gold sales by value are estimated to have increased 15-20% year-on-year to around ₹60,000 crore, according to preliminary estimates by the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC). However, the quantity of gold sold remained broadly unchanged from last year due to higher prices. Silver sales are expected to rise 30% in value and 10% in volume.

Rajesh Rokde, Chairman of GJC, noted that total gold business across India on Dhanteras was approximately ₹60,000 crore. Avinash Gupta, Vice Chairman of GJC, highlighted higher showroom footfalls and strong demand in western and northern markets. The recent dip in gold prices, from ₹1.83 lakh per 10 grams in January to ₹1.46 lakh per 10 grams on Dhanteras, provided an added impetus for purchases.

Demand was not limited to traditional gold jewellery. Companies like Raj Diamonds reported a 20% growth in demand for natural diamond jewellery, while MMTC-PAMP noted buyers opting for smaller gold coins and bars. The All India Jewellers and Goldsmith Federation reported nationwide sales exceeding ₹66,000 crore, with Delhi's bullion markets recording over ₹10,000 crore in business.
