Diesel Fuel, Heating Oil Prices May Continue Climb Without Geopolitical Changes

Gregory D. DeYong, an associate professor of operations management at Southern Illinois University Carbondale's College of Business and Analytics, warns that diesel fuel and heating oil prices may continue to rise without significant geopolitical changes.

While gasoline prices often experience a seasonal drop, DeYong notes that the prices for diesel fuel and home heating oil could remain high due to various factors. He emphasizes that retailers and consumers are already feeling the pain in low-margin, fast-moving items such as produce and meat.

The professor attributes the rising costs to the increasing demand for diesel fuel and heating oil, which has led to higher prices at the pump. DeYong suggests that without geopolitical changes, these prices may continue to climb, affecting not only consumers but also retailers who rely on low-margin items.
