Diesel Price Spike: A Perfect Storm for Economic Woes

The recent surge in diesel prices has sparked concerns about its impact on the economy. While gasoline prices have been getting most of the attention, diesel fuel is the lifeblood of shipping, agriculture, and heavy industry.

Nathan Bomey, a business reporter at Axios, noted that 'most products in America are shipped along the road via trucks.' Diesel prices directly affect their cost of doing business, which then trickles down to consumers.

The current diesel price spike is attributed to the US and Israel attacking Iran, disrupting the entire global energy economy. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz affected shipping bringing supplies out of the Middle East, impacting diesel prices, gasoline prices, jet fuel prices, and everything based on crude oil.

Truckers and farmers are feeling the initial blow, but it's only a matter of time before consumers notice the effects. Bomey predicts that 'people will start to notice increases, especially in the grocery aisle' within weeks or days.
