Diesel Prices Hit Record Highs Amid Strait of Hormuz Disruptions and Russia-Ukraine War
The global diesel market is experiencing record-high prices due to ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Russia-Ukraine war. As of September 18, the average price for a gallon of diesel stood at $6.43, according to data from GasBuddy.
The historic increase in diesel prices comes amidst continued tensions in the Middle East, sparked by the US-Israeli attack on Iran in February. The conflict has also led to increased costs across various sectors, including fuel and energy, as well as food and travel expenses for consumers.
Rising oil and diesel prices have raised concerns about increasing winter heating bills, particularly for households reliant on heating oil. According to a recent report by the National Energy Assistance Directors Association, these households could face bills more than 31% higher than last year's costs.
