Diesel Prices Soar to Record Highs as Harvest Season Strains Farmers
Farmers in the United States are facing record-high diesel prices just as harvest season is in full swing, exacerbating their struggles to make ends meet.
The nationwide average price of diesel has reached $6.31 per gallon, with some parts of California seeing prices as high as $10 per gallon, leaving stations at a loss for how to display prices on their three-digit displays.
John Boyd, founder and president of the National Black Farmers Association, criticized President Donald Trump's handling of the situation, saying 'Trump says we're winning the war in Iran and we're in control of the Strait of Hormuz. Based on 10-dollar diesel fuel, we are losing the war.'
Farmers like Boyd are struggling to balance their expenses, with some spending upwards of $1,000 per full tank for their combine harvesters.
The price of diesel has surged by 37 cents in the past week alone, despite Trump's recent deal granting the U.S. control over more than 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil.
