Diesel Prices Surge Above $6 Per Gallon in Minnesota

Minnesota's average diesel fuel price has surpassed $6 per gallon, causing concerns for farmers, truckers, and consumers. According to AAA, the statewide average diesel price is approximately $6.07 per gallon as of September 15, 2026.

The price increase of over 10 cents in one day and about 30 cents in a week has put pressure on industries that rely heavily on heavy vehicles and equipment. These include farmers, trucking companies, construction businesses, and public agencies.

Minnesota farmers are particularly vulnerable due to the high fuel costs required for harvest work, including combines, tractors, trucks, and grain-drying operations. Corn and soybean prices have improved, but rapid increases in diesel expenses could absorb part of those gains.

The effect will vary by farm, with producers who purchased or contracted fuel earlier potentially having some protection. Independent truck drivers and small transportation companies may also be vulnerable due to their limited financial capacity to absorb sudden price increases.
