Diplomacy Eases West Asia Tensions, Oil Prices Slide
Oil markets saw a decline in prices as diplomatic efforts in West Asia eased concerns over supply disruptions. Brent crude oil futures slipped below $102 a barrel on Monday, trading at $101.62, down 2.05%. The October West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures stood at $98.02, declining 2.27%.
The drop in prices came as the US and Iran engaged in diplomatic talks, with US President Donald Trump indicating a willingness to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week. Reports also suggested that Iran had communicated conditions for restarting negotiations with the US.
US Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper highlighted the movement of 1 billion barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz in recent months, saying 'That's 1 billion barrels of crude oil out through the Strait of Hormuz in the last couple of months.'
