Diplomatic Hopes Pressure Crude Oil Prices
Crude oil prices are experiencing downward pressure due to diplomatic developments in the Middle East. The October WTI crude oil (CLV26) price is down -0.18% today, while October RBOB gasoline (RBV26) is up +1.94%. The decline in crude oil prices comes as Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the US lifts its blockade on Iranian ports.
The diplomatic efforts aim to ease tensions and restore stability in the region, which would lead to increased crude supplies moving through the Strait of Hormuz. This development is bearish for energy prices, contributing to the downward pressure on crude oil prices.
However, there are also signs that refiners are purchasing more crude oil to refine into gasoline and distillates due to a record high crude crack spread, which has supported crude prices from their worst levels.
