Diyarbakır Becomes Türkiye's New Oil Frontier
Türkiye's efforts to boost domestic oil and gas exploration have found a new dimension with the extraction of shale oil in the country's southeast.
The first shale oil was extracted from a depth of approximately 4,000 meters in Diyarbakır province using modern technologies and methods.
According to officials, the quality of this oil is comparable to that of oil extracted in Middle Eastern countries.
The extraction site, located between Bismil and Silvan districts, was once difficult to access due to security concerns but has now become a potential 'oil hub' for Türkiye.
Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar had earlier announced that shale oil reserves in Diyarbakır could potentially be two to three times larger than the Gabar field in Şırnak, with a total value of $540 billion and an annual contribution of $8 billion to the economy.
