Turbine Prices Soar as AI Data Centers Drive Demand
The demand for natural gas power turbines is soaring due to the growing need for electricity in AI data centers, which are unable to connect to traditional power grids. According to BloombergNEF, nearly 100 data centers have or are building on-site natural gas turbine power infrastructure.
As a result, the prices of these machines are expected to nearly triple by the end of next year, according to Wood Mackenzie. This has created a lucrative opportunity for companies that manufacture and supply these turbines.
GE Vernova, Siemens Energy, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries are among the top publicly traded companies benefiting from this trend. GE Vernova's organic revenue growth was 12% in the last quarter, led by 14% growth in its power division. Its total orders jumped 134% year-over-year in Q2.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries reported a 13.3% revenue growth in its most recently completed quarter and is expected to continue adding capacity to meet demand. Siemens Energy received 15 gigawatts' worth of new orders, growing its backlog to 69 gigawatts' worth of gas-power equipment.
