Doerkson Promises LNG Production Surge Under Conservative Government
B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson has unveiled a new platform plank aimed at turbocharging the provincial economy by leaning into liquefied natural gas production.
Doerkson, who is running to become permanent leader of the party after the election, pledged to double LNG production by 2032 and triple it by 2035. He referred to the plan as 'B.C.'s superpower plan,' claiming that if a project is good for British Columbia, it will receive a quick yes.
The NDP's Ravi Parmar, a Forests minister, called Doerkson's plan a 'ChatGPT plan' and ridiculed it for promising what he says the party is already committed to achieving. He stated that his government would exceed this target on its current path and claimed they will not only triple but more than triple LNG production by 2035.
Doerkson's plan comes as provincial election campaign narratives have shifted toward affordability, with the Conservative Party leaning into a 'no new taxes' message and the NDP warning those plans would require spending cuts. Doerkson argues that the Conservative Party has the answer to unlock the province's hidden potential, while an NDP government would leave the sector wallowing in bureaucratic red tape.
