The US dollar surged against the Japanese yen in the New York foreign exchange market on October 10th, briefly reaching a high of 159.06 yen. This brief spike marked a break above the lower boundary of the Ichimoku cloud, which was identified at 158.94 yen.

The catalyst for the dollar's advance was the surge in oil prices, with WTI crude futures climbing to around $81.05 per barrel and extending gains into the upper $81 range. Market participants noted that heightened geopolitical risk is stoking concerns over crude supply, fueling inflation fears and pushing US long-term interest rates higher.

This led to 'safe-haven dollar buying' that dominated trading, with USD/JPY showing resilience and maintaining elevated levels throughout the session. The intraday trading range for USD/JPY was 157.54 yen to 159.06 yen.

Despite broad-based dollar strength weighing on the euro, EUR/USD pared its losses, trading at $1.1547 near the session low of $1.1544. EUR/JPY lacked clear direction, attracting buying in sympathy with USD/JPY's rise but entering a consolidation phase without establishing a definitive trend.
