The US Dollar (USD) remains weak after August's data weighed down the odds of a Federal Reserve (Fed) interest rate hike in September.

Gold price maintains upward pressure near August highs, trading not far below the $4,400 mark. The latest available US data showed Retail Sales contracted 0.6% MoM in July, while Consumer Sentiment fell to 51 in August from 55.2 in the previous month.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will release the minutes of the July meeting on Wednesday, but it's unlikely to shed light on future action.
