Drone Strike on US-Owned LNG Tanker at Egypt's Damietta Port Sparks Fears of Conflict Expansion

A US-owned liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker was struck by a drone at Egypt's Damietta Port, sparking concerns that the conflict in the Middle East is expanding into another key energy hub. The attack triggered an explosion and fire while LNG cargo was being handled, forcing emergency crews to rush to the scene and evacuate sailors.

No injuries were reported, but the incident intensified fears that the region's widening conflict is beginning to threaten countries outside its direct line of fire. The tanker, Energos Winter, is a floating storage unit capable of storing 138,250 cubic meters of LNG.

The attack came on one of the most volatile days in the region, with the US and Saudi Arabia carrying out joint strikes on Iran-backed Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) bases across Iraq. This marked Riyadh's first acknowledged participation in military operations alongside Washington against Tehran's allies.
